So if you follow me on facebook (and you probably do since that's the only place I post this blog) you know that I LOVE my patio. My favorite thing to do is sit on my patio with a drink in my hand, listen to my music and stare at the stars. Today, my dear husband took care of our son most of the day so I could work on my paper so i could get a little patio time tonight (I am writing this post from my patio!) He's such a great guy.

March 30

My brother gave me the best compliment today. He said that I reminded him of our cousin Kathy. Kathy was killed in a car accident in 1997, and she was one of the coolest people I know. She was smart, funny, and caring. I was honored to be compared to her.

March 29

Today there was a terrible accident near where I work. The very busy road where it happened was closed for 8 hours. I was pleased to see how courteous everyone was while driving around the accident. It took me nearly an hour to drive what normally takes 5 minutes and people were not getting mad. It is a tragic event, as two people died, but at least others were nice about the inconvenience.

March 28

Today a friend shared a story with me. She stopped at a Bob Evans to eat by herself. She ate at the counter, as she had done other times. She knew that many times, waitresses were not as focused on their customers at the counter so she was so happy to have a waitress who was wonderful. Her service was so good she left a $20 tip. My friend said the best part was Seeing the surprise then happiness when the waitress got her tip.

My son loves buses. Every time we are in the car he screams out when he sees one. Today we drove past a bus and I suggested to him that he wave at the bus driver. He waved and the bus driver waved back. It was the cutest thing!

Today I got a really good parking spot at work. It made my work day start of right.

Today at church the priest's sermon talked about sharing kindness this week. He specifically spoke about the little things that make a difference (like being nice when you leave the parking lot of church, which is ironic that people are so rude after praying together for an hour). It was nice to hear about the importance of small acts.

Today is my sons birthday. We had many great kindnesses from friends and family today.

My parents and I went to Toys R Us today. The cashier tried to get us 20% off the big item we were purchasing. We thought our coupon wasn't going to work but we thought we'd try, and it was nice of the cashier to try for us.

March 22

Today my fried was asked to sign a petition. Rather then signing it, she told him about the importance of making eye contact when asking for something. She saw him later in the day and he thanked her for her advice. Her random kindness helped his cause.

March 21

I went to Target tonight just before closing, which I hate doing but I had to. I apologized to the woman who checked me out and she was sincere when she said it was not a bug deal.

March 20

I got to do something cool for work today. We sat at a table inside the room where all things graduation were taking place. Students that were graduating can come to this event and get everything they need to graduate - from their cap and gown to joining the alumni association. We had a table to ask graduates to write a little thank you note to donors to the university. This is the first time we had done anything like this, so we weren't sure how it would be received. The response was amazing! We received over 150 thank you notes from students to donors. It was so great to see how many students just thought it was great and were more than happy to help.

We ate brunch at a local restaurant. I noticed right away that the entire staff was over the top friendly. Like super friendly. The hostess was really nice, the waitress kept letting us know our food would be out soon (it didn't take a long time or anything), and the person who cashed us out was grateful we said, "have a nice day".

Today is my birthday. It was so nice for random people to tell me happy birthday when they found out.

I enjoyed the kindness of the Irish today.

Today a young gentlemen held a door for me and when I said thank you, he said "my pleasure". That was nice.

March 15

I love how sports transcends all places. I had a great conversation with a guy in Las Vegas about the Cleveland Indians.

Today a person needed to get off the highway and kind of cut me off. He waved and waved after he did it- you could tell he didn't mean to do it an was appreciative of me letting him in my lane.

I got to take a nice long run outside today. It was unexpected time alone, which was nice.

I was told I had a good energy today. Not exactly the conversation I expected to have with the check out guy at the dollar store but it was really nice.

My husband, who was sick most of the weekend, got his energy up to watch our son for a couple of hours so I could get a bunch of shopping out of the way.

I got to enjoy the great weather outside today.

March 9

We have a lot of family coming to town starting Thursday. Today my husband spent his extra few hours off work cleaning our house and doing laundry so we could spend time doing other things the rest of the weekend.

March 8

Parking at may work can be challenging at times. So it was nice today when a gentleman saw that I was trying to find a parking spot and pointed to me where his car was, then waited until I got close to his spot before she pulled out of the spot. This is huge at my office, and I was so thankful.

I was home sick today. It was nice to be able to take time to get better. I am lucky to be able to get sick days.

I had a great conversation with a good friend today. It was nice to just talk about fun things in life, not serious stuff.

March 5

Today is about the random kindness of friends. A casual comment at a toddler's birthday party led to my husband and I getting club seats at a college championship basketball game tonight. It was so nice of our friend.

The cashier at Target was really helpful to put my stuff in the bags the way I like it. Sometimes they don't put enough stuff in the recycling bags but she asked than packed them the way I liked.

We went out to dinner tonight and had good service (which is so very helpful when you dine out with a toddler) and the server came over to say thanks so much for the tip.

I went to Bowling Green State University. It was the best four years of my life. I met the love of my life, built life long relationships, and got a great education. BGSU is not a small campus, but when you got involved, those organizations made it feel like a small college.

I think the small campus feel is why so many people have come together over a tragedy. Early this morning, three young BGSU students were killed in a car accident. They were hit head on by a car going the wrong way on the highway. They were driving to the airport to go on spring break.

What has made me feel so good about my alma mater is the amount of condolences and prayers I have seen for these girls. Nearly every BGSU friend of mine posted something on their Facebook page about the accident. People are posting stories, links and videos sharing information. One of BG's "mantras" is "Once a Falcon, always a Falcon". I am so proud to be a Falcon today, and so saddened by the loss of these girls. I hope that scholarships are created in their honor so that their memories live on.

When I was in college, I joined the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Every March 1 the women celebrate Hera Day by doing acts of kindness. So today's post is in honor of the many acts of kindness taking place by these wonderful women.
